  • Company: Adare Pharma Solutions
  • Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Deal value: Not applicable
  • Focus area: Manufacturing, packaging, pharmaceutical services
  • Next steps: Site closure by June 30, 2026; workforce reduction and possible redeployment to other sites

What happened?

Adare Pharma Solutions, a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has announced plans to close its manufacturing and packaging plant on Orthodox Street in Philadelphia, resulting in the loss of 137 jobs. The closure is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026, following a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing with Pennsylvania authorities.

Why does it matter?

The closure and staff cuts come less than two years after Adare relocated its global headquarters to Philadelphia with promises of job growth and expansion. The move was supported by $3 million in state funding and was expected to create 115 new jobs and secure 200 existing ones. The decision highlights the impact of adverse economic conditions on the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and raises concerns about regional investment returns.

Who’s behind it?

Adare Pharma Solutions is a global CDMO specialising in oral dosage manufacturing and packaging. The company is owned by private equity firms Thomas H. Lee Partners and Frazier Healthcare Partners. Adare moved its headquarters from New Jersey to Philadelphia in 2024, citing the city’s workforce and supportive environment.

How was it achieved?

The company cited “adverse economic situations for our clients” as the reason for the closure and layoffs. The Orthodox Street facility will be phased out between March 1 and June 30, 2026. Adare plans to try and redeploy some affected employees to its other locations, including its corporate headquarters at the Dungan Road facility in Philadelphia.

What’s next?

Adare will continue to operate its headquarters and remaining facilities in Philadelphia. The company will focus on integrating operations and supporting remaining employees through redeployment and transition efforts.
