  • Main headline: Strategic alliance (financial terms not disclosed)
  • Focus area: Oral solid dosage (OSD) development and manufacturing (tablets, capsules)
  • Next steps: Joint governance, harmonised processes, and integrated tech transfer

What happened?

Rottendorf Pharma and Corealis Pharma have formalised a strategic, transatlantic alliance to provide an integrated oral solid dose (OSD) development and manufacturing pathway from pre‑formulation through global commercial supply. Under the agreement, Corealis will focus on R&D and phase I–II clinical supplies, while Rottendorf takes over for phase III, validation, and commercial manufacturing for markets including the US and Europe.

Why does it matter?

Sponsors often juggle multiple CDMOs between early development and commercialisation, increasing tech‑transfer risk, timelines and regulatory complexity. The Rottendorf–Corealis alliance aims to de‑risk this journey by aligning formulation strategy, analytical methods, equipment and processes from the outset, reducing scale‑up and validation risk and accelerating time to market for small and mid‑size pharma and biotech clients.

Who’s behind it?

Corealis is a Canadian CDMO specialising in early‑stage OSD development, formulation, and phase I–II clinical trial material supply. Rottendorf, a 95‑year‑old German CDMO, brings deep experience in late‑stage development, scale‑up and global commercial manufacturing of oral solid dosage forms.

How was it achieved?

The alliance builds on an existing collaboration and is structured around a joint execution and governance framework, including shared project teams, standardised tech‑transfer dossiers and harmonised data exchange. By integrating commercial manufacturing considerations early—such as material selection, process parameters and regulatory expectations—the partners aim to create a smoother transition from North American early‑stage work at Corealis to European phase III and commercial production at Rottendorf.

What’s next?

Rottendorf and Corealis will jointly market the alliance as a “seamless OSD” solution, targeting biotech and specialty‑pharma customers seeking a single, end‑to‑end CDMO pathway. Future steps include expanding the range of OSD technologies covered—such as modified‑release and high‑potency formulations—while refining joint governance to support more complex, global programmes.

What are people saying?

Corealis CEO David Leroux‑Petersen said the collaboration gives biotech clients “a continuous transition from early‑stage development to commercial supply – with seamless knowledge transfer.” Rottendorf Managing Director Erich Scheibner called Corealis “an ideal partner for early‑stage development who complements our own expertise and expands our reach in this area.”
